For Your Information

Review Year End

Page 2004, Paragraph 2000.14 of the AICPA Peer Review Program Manual states:

A firm should maintain its review year (end) from review to review. A firm’s subsequent review should be completed within three years and six months after the end of the period covered by the previous review. (Engagements with financial statement periods ending during this period may be subject to review.)

If you are uncertain about how to classify any of your engagements, you may consider consulting with AICPA Professional Standards Vol. 1 and 2, your reviewer, or another CPA firm that performs similar engagements.

Administrative Procedures

Once you have chosen a date to have your firm’s review performed, the administrative procedures are applicable regardless of the deadline date for your review.

When are the Results of My Peer Review Final?

The results of the firm’s review are final when the Peer Review committee accepts the report and, if applicable, the letter of comments (LOC) and the letter of response (LOR.) This final step ensures that a panel of your peers agrees with your reviewers' conclusions. You should not publicize the results of the review or distribute copies of the report until NEPR has advised you that the report has been accepted.

It ordinarily takes 60 to 90 days to process a review (with the exception of tax season) from the receipt of the review documents by NEPR to acceptance by the Peer Review committee.
